Adding custom profile properties to flows in Yotpo SMS & Email allows you to gather detailed information about your customers. The collected data can be used for more effective audience segmentation which helps tailor product recommendations and promotional offers, ultimately improving engagement and increasing conversion rates.

In this article, you’ll learn how to add custom profile properties to flows.

    How it works

Custom profile properties are specific attributes or data points associated with individual customer profiles. These properties provide additional insights and information such as demographics, preferences, and purchase history, for example, gender, marital status, fitness interests, etc.

When customers reach the custom profile property step in a flow, they are tagged with a new property. If a given property already exists, its value is updated. You can add a custom profile property when creating a new flow or editing an existing one.

To learn more about how to use custom profile properties in segments and as conditions in flows, see Enhancing Segments and Flows with Custom Profile Properties in Yotpo SMS & Email.

Adding a custom profile property to a flow

To add a custom profile property to a new flow:

    1. In your Yotpo SMS & Email main menu, go to Flows > My Flows and click Create flow.

    2. Select a trigger and start building your flow.

    3. Click +Add step, select Add action, and choose Add custom profile property from the list of actions.

After you add the custom profile property action, choose whether to create a new property or update an existing profile property. You can add more properties by clicking +AND.

Creating a new custom profile property

    To create a new property:

    1. Select a label for your property.

    2. Select the property’s data type (text, boolean, number, or date) and define a value.

    Tip:

You can also tag a profile with a certain property without assigning a value to it. Simply leave the value field empty. This is possible for all value types except boolean.

    Updating an existing profile property

    To update an existing property:

    1. Select from the drop-down menu the property that will be updated.

    2. Enter a new value.

    Tip:

You can update existing custom profile properties by removing their value. Just leave the value field empty. This is possible for all value types except boolean.

After you complete the setup, you can continue customizing your flow or click Save and exit the flow builder.
