# Creating a Segment

## Goals and Outcomes

Segments are groups of customers defined by one or more conditions. Customers are automatically added when they meet the segment criteria and removed when they no longer qualify.

Segments are calculated in real time, ensuring that you always see the most up-to-date group of customers who meet your conditions.

In this article, you’ll learn how to create segments in Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals.

## How to Create a Segment

To create a segment:

1. From your **Yotpo Loyalty admin**, go to [**Segments**](https://loyalty-app.yotpo.com/segmentation-tool-ui).
2. In the upper right corner, click **Create segment**.

> Tip
> 
> If you want to create a new segment with similar conditions to an existing segment, you can just duplicate it and adjust the conditions. To do that, click the three dots next the segments and select **Duplicate**. Then edit the duplicated segment as necessary.
3. Name the segment and click **Save**.
4. Add conditions to build your segment.

> 
> Check the Summary box on the right to see the total number of customers and total number of loyalty members included in the segment. The Summary will dynamically update as you add or remove conditions.
5. Click **Save** when ready.

> Important
> 
> - Customers whose accounts have been deleted from your eCommerce platform are automatically excluded.
> - Email addresses ending in @example.com or @deleted.com are [used for anonymization](https://support.yotpo.com/docs/deleting-customers-from-your-loyalty-and-referrals-account) and are filtered out.

Once saved, your new segment will appear at the top of the list with a **NEW** label.
