Tip
If you’re new to this feature, we recommend starting with the main Reviews Atlas guide first.
Now that you know the Reviews Atlas metrics and how scores are calculated, let’s apply that in practice with an example.
Understanding the Reviews Atlas Data: Example
Disclaimer: For simplicity, we’re using All time data in this example.
Here’s a sample brand in the beauty industry. Its Overview Tab shows the following scores:
Although the brand’s overall reviews performance score is excellent at 82 (out of 100), we can immediately see improvement opportunities:
Review quality is 65 out of 100.
Review authenticity has dropped by 2% from the previous month.
The product star rating average is below the industry benchmark.
While the brand is performing well overall, these insights reveal key areas for improvement. Let’s explore how to analyze and optimize each metric.
Improve Review Quality
To better understand where the quality of your reviews ranks against the competition, go to the Reviews quality tab. This section provides three benchmarks for comparison. In this example, the brand falls within the industry average but ranks in the lower half for two of the benchmarks.
Next steps:
Increase review length: Encourage customers to leave more descriptive reviews, e.g. by adding custom prompts to your review request emails.
Boost media-rich reviews: Incentivize customers to add media to their reviews, e.g. by offering rewards for reviews with images.
Improve Review Authenticity
The brand has a strong authenticity score of 96 and is performing well compared to industry benchmarks. However, to refine this even further, a granular approach at the product level can uncover additional opportunities for improvement.
Next steps:
Analyze the Reviews performance by product table at the bottom of the tab:
Sort products by their Balanced ratings score (lowest to highest).
If a product has a Low score, it means a high percentage of its published reviews are 5 stars. To improve balance and build trust, consider publishing a more representative mix of reviews, including those with constructive feedback.
Increase the Product Star Rating Average
To improve the overall product star rating, focus on individual products with lower star ratings in the Reviews performance by product table.
Next steps:
Identify products with the lowest star rating and examine their reviews for recurring issues. Common factors may include:
Damaged packaging
Product defects
Mismatched expectations (e.g., misleading product descriptions)
Customer service concerns
Take action based on insights, e.g.:
Adjust product descriptions for clarity.
Improve packaging or quality control.
Address recurring customer service complaints.
Engage with dissatisfied customers:
Reach out to customers who left low-star reviews to resolve their concerns.
Once the issue is addressed, follow up with a new review request, giving them the opportunity to update their previous rating.
