Goals and Outcomes
The self-service import feature allows eligible merchants to upload existing reviews into Yotpo. Merchants can migrate historical reviews, control how reviews are displayed, and validate imported data before it goes live.
In this article, you’ll learn how to import reviews, match file columns, review errors, and complete a self-service review import.
Feature Overview
The self-service import feature lets eligible merchants upload reviews using a CSV file. You can import up to 100,000 reviews at a time.
During the import process, merchants can map file columns to Yotpo fields, review validation results, fix errors, and complete the import directly from the Yotpo Admin. The feature supports flexible file structures and automatic column matching.
Getting Started
You can access the self-service import feature from your Yotpo Admin under the Reviews Moderation section.
Important
Before starting the import, make sure your product catalog is already imported into Yotpo. This is required because product reviews can only be associated with products that already exist in your catalog.
Feature Process
From your Yotpo Admin, go to Manage > Import Reviews.
Click on Request new import.
In the popup, select where the reviews were originally collected from.
Select the most accurate source available. This helps Yotpo understand the origin of the reviews and apply the relevant authenticity policies.
Depending on the selected source category, choose the specific source from the dropdown.
Click Next.
Note
If you’re uploading custom question answers, make sure the custom questions are already created and published in Yotpo.
If the custom questions do not exist in Yotpo, you need to create and publish them before importing the file.
In the popup, select where the reviews were originally collected from.
This helps Yotpo understand the origin of the reviews and apply the relevant authenticity policies.
Choose the specific source from the dropdown.
Click Next.

Upload your CSV file.
If you don’t have a file, download the template, fill in all required fields, and upload it.
Confirm that the imported reviews are genuine, accurate, and that you have permission to use them by selecting the checkbox.
Click Next.
Important
If the Product ID value is empty, the review is treated as a site review. If the review is a product review, the Product ID must be provided.
If you need help finding your Product IDs, see How to find your Product IDs.

Matching Your Columns
Match your file columns to Yotpo fields. Refer to the Column Definition section for more details about each column.
Columns are matched automatically when possible, even if column names or order differ.
Note
Column names in your file do not need to exactly match Yotpo’s column names. The system automatically detects and matches columns based on the data they contain. For example, a column named Product identification number can be automatically matched to Product ID.

If a required column is missing, however, another column with similar name may be matched instead. Always review the matching results and adjust them if needed before proceeding.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
In addition, make sure the values within matched columns follow the expected format. For example, Review Score must contain numeric values from 1 to 5. If a matched column contains empty cells, you can set a default value to be applied for those rows before proceeding.
Required fields must be matched in order to proceed.
Required fields are listed at the bottom of the screen.
If any required field is grayed out, match it manually.
If all required fields are marked in green, you can proceed.
Click Next.

Reviewing and Fixing Errors
Review your file before submitting the import.
If a row shows an error, it will not be imported.
You can fix errors directly by editing the value inside the cell.
You can also reupload your CSV file and restart the import process.
Click Import.
Click Confirm import.
Note
After you confirm the import, it may take some time to process. The import will continue in the background.
Once processing is complete, the status in the Import History page will be updated, and you’ll receive an email notification.

Review Validation and Syndication Eligibility
Some reviews may be imported successfully but may not be eligible for syndication to external retailer or partner networks. This is because syndication eligibility is determined separately from import completion and is subject to platform and partner requirements. Reviews with proof of purchase or other qualifying validation signals may be eligible for syndication, depending on the review data and applicable requirements.
If imported reviews are not eligible for syndication, they may still be displayed on your direct-to-consumer site, depending on their review status and your display settings.
Viewing Import History
Go to Manage > Import Reviews.
In the Import History page, you can see the status of each import and how many reviews were submitted, imported successfully, or failed.
The import can take up to several hours to complete. You’ll receive an email notification when the import is complete.
If the import is successful, the status is Done.
If some reviews fail, a warning icon appears next to the imported count.
In some cases, an import may not pass the automatic checks and will be marked as In Review. This means Yotpo is reviewing the import before completing it. No action is needed from you while the review is in progress. You’ll receive an email notification once the import either passes or fails manual review.
Column Definitions
Below is an explanation of each column you may see during the mapping step.

If the column contains empty cells, you can select a default value during the matching step. The selected value will be applied to all empty rows.
How to Select a Default Value
You select a default value during the Matching Your Columns step, after you match your file column to a Yotpo field.
When a column is matched:
You’ll see a dropdown under the Yotpo column.
This dropdown lets you select a value.
Any rows in your file where that column is empty will automatically use the selected value.
This is useful when:
A column is optional.
Some rows have values and others don’t.
You want all empty rows to default to the same value.
Troubleshooting
Duplicate Reviews Are Not Imported
Issue
Some reviews fail to import with the error message Duplicated reviews.
Important
Updating existing reviews via import is not supported. If a review already exists in Yotpo, attempting to reimport it with updated values will not override the existing review. Instead, the review will be marked as duplicated and ignored during the import.
Cause
A review is considered a duplicate if another review from the same import batch has the exact same values for all of the following fields:
Email.
Review Title.
Review Content.
Product ID.
All of these values must be identical for the review to be marked as duplicated. Other fields are not considered.
How to fix
Review the failed rows marked as Duplicated reviews.
Remove or update duplicate entries in your CSV file.
Reupload the file and restart the import, if needed.
Only one instance of each duplicated review can be imported successfully.
Reviews Fail After Processing
Issue
After the import is processed, some reviews fail and display an error message in the Import History.

Cause
Some reviews may fail during processing if they do not meet import validation requirements. The following error types may appear:
Existing reviews.
The review already exists in Yotpo for the same store and product. This can happen when the same review data was previously imported or submitted.Duplicated reviews.
A verified review is considered duplicated when another review from the same import batch has the same Email, Review Title, Review Content, and Product ID.Suspicious reviews.
A verified review is considered suspicious when multiple reviews in the same batch contain identical review content that appears repetitive.
How to fix
Review the failed rows and note the error type shown.
For existing or duplicated reviews, remove duplicate entries from your file.
For suspicious reviews, review the content and adjust it if needed.
Reupload the file and restart the import if you want to retry failed reviews.
Only reviews that pass validation are imported successfully.
Column Names Are Not Displaying During Matching
Issue
During the Match columns step, column names are not displayed correctly, or all values appear in a single column.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Cause
The CSV file does not include a proper column header row. Instead of column names, the first row contains review data or a title row.
How to fix
Open your CSV file.
Make sure the first row contains column names, not review values.
Each column name should appear in its own cell.
Save the file as a CSV.
Reupload the file and restart the import process.
Example
Incorrect format:
The first row contains review data such as email addresses or review text.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Correct format:
The first row contains column names such as Email, Review Title, Review Content, Review Score, and Product ID.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Once the file includes a valid column header row, the system will correctly detect and match your columns during the import.
An Optional Column Is Not Matched
Issue
During the Match columns step, an optional column shows a warning and is marked as Unable to automatically match.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Cause
The column contains data that does not map to any supported Yotpo field. Optional columns are not required for a successful import and may remain unmatched.
How to fix
Check whether the column is listed as required or optional at the bottom of the screen.

If the column is optional, you do not need to match it.
Leave the column unmatched and continue with the import.
A Required Column Is Missing
Issue
During the Match columns step, you see a warning indicating that one or more required columns are missing. You cannot proceed to the next step.

Cause
One or more required columns are not matched to a Yotpo field. Required columns must be present and matched in order to continue with the import.

How to fix
Review the Required columns list at the bottom of the screen.
Identify which required column is missing or not matched.
Match the missing column manually using the dropdown.
Make sure all required columns are marked in green.
Click Next once all required columns are matched.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Fixing Errors Directly During Review
Issue
During the Review & import step, one or more rows show validation errors and cannot be imported.
.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-07-29T17%3A46%3A25Z&se=2026-07-29T18%3A07%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=R%2FKCvkSm7zDqkmaFpM%2Bi0k3Za13lf3ygXyIaWXd40UA%3D)
Cause
Some values in the file are invalid or do not match your store data. For example, a Product ID may not exist in your product catalog, or a required value may be missing.
How to fix
Click Show errors to view only the rows with issues.
Click inside the highlighted cell to edit the value directly.
Update the value with a valid entry.
Move to the next error using Go to next error, if needed.
Repeat until all errors are resolved.
Click Import once no errors remain.

Example
A row shows an error indicating that the Product ID does not exist in the catalog.
You can replace the invalid Product ID directly in the cell.
Once the value is corrected, the error is cleared and the row becomes eligible for import.
This allows you to fix errors without reuploading your file or restarting the import process.
