Is this article for me?

This article is relevant if you’re using the Mailchimp-built integration between Yotpo Reviews and Mailchimp.

If you’re using Yotpo’s legacy integration with Mailchimp, please refer to Mailchimp’s migration guide and contact Mailchimp Support for help migrating to the new integration.

Yotpo’s integration with Mailchimp helps you connect your Reviews data with email marketing campaigns. With this integration, you can use review data in Mailchimp to trigger automations, build customer segments, add social proof to your emails, and view review activity on contact profiles. Mailchimp describes the integration as syncing customer review data and reviewer details to your audience so you can trigger post-review flows and showcase social proof in your email campaigns.

In this article you will learn how to connect Yotpo Reviews with Mailchimp and how to use review data to enhance your email marketing strategy.

Integration Overview

By integrating Yotpo Reviews with Mailchimp, you can use review activity as a valuable signal in your marketing. For example, you can:

  • Create automations based on review-related events.

  • Build segments using review score, reviewed product, or review status.

  • Add review content to your emails to increase trust and social proof.

  • View review activity directly in Mailchimp contact profiles.

Integration Basics

To set up the integration, you’ll need access to both your Yotpo Reviews admin and your Mailchimp account. Mailchimp says this integration requires a connected Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or Magento store with Yotpo installed, and a Mailchimp account with Manager-level access or higher. The connection is initiated from Yotpo and completed in Mailchimp.

Configuration Instructions

To connect Yotpo Reviews with Mailchimp:

In your Yotpo Reviews admin

  1. Go to Integrations.

  2. Locate the Mailchimp for Yotpo Reviews tile and click Connect.

  3. Review the access permissions you are granting Mailchimp and click Next.

  4. Click Connect.

In your Mailchimp admin:

  1. Sign in to your Mailchimp account.

  2. On the Yotpo Ratings & Reviews integration page, click Connect.

  3. Review your settings and click Continue.

  4. From the drop-down menu, choose the store you want to work with and click Sync now.

  5. Wait until the sync is completed.

  6. Click View dashboard to review and manage the integration settings.

Note
Most syncs take a few minutes, but the timing may vary based on the number of reviews.

Once connected, your Yotpo review data will be available in Mailchimp.

Part of the Process

Creating Automations

You can use Yotpo review data in Mailchimp to create automated flows based on customer review activity. These automations help you send timely, relevant emails based on where the customer is in their review journey.

Review Request Automations

When a customer becomes eligible to leave a review, Yotpo sends an event to Mailchimp that can trigger a review request automation. You can use this automation to send an initial review request through Mailchimp.

  • Initial wait period: After a customer purchases a product and is ready to leave a review, the automation waits for a set period before sending the first email. This delay gives the customer enough time to receive and use the product before being asked for feedback.

  • Review request email: The first email asks the customer to leave a review for their recent purchase. Here, you can add the Request a review email content block to the email so customers can easily submit their feedback. For more details on working with content blocks in Mailchimp’s email builder, see Displaying Review Content in Emails below.

Example: “We’d love to hear your feedback on your recent purchase.”

Best practices:

  • Add a time delay before sending the review request email so the customer has time to receive and use the product.

  • Add the Request a review email content block to your email.

Important
Before activating the review request automation in Mailchimp, deactivate the review request email in Yotpo to avoid duplicate review request emails.

Post-Review Follow-Up Automations

When a customer submits a review, Yotpo sends a trigger to Mailchimp that you can use to send follow-up emails.

For example, you can use the review rating to create personalized follow-ups based on review score, such as:

  • Sending a thank-you email to customers who leave a high-rating review.

  • Sending a follow-up message to customers who leave a low-rating review.

Tip

Using review score in your follow-up strategy helps you tailor the message to the customer’s experience.

Creating Segments

You can build Mailchimp segments using Yotpo review data to target specific customer groups with more relevant messaging. Mailchimp lists three Yotpo-specific segmentation criteria: review score, product reviewed, and review status.

For example, you can segment customers by:

  • Review score: Customers who left a 4-star or 5-star review.

  • Product reviewed: Customers who reviewed a specific product.

  • Review status: Customers who submitted a review vs. customers who are still pending.

Displaying Review Content in Emails

While building an email in Mailchimp, you can add social proof with the Feature a review content block. This block pulls specific customer testimonials from your Yotpo data into your email layout to help build trust.

To feature a review in your email:

  1. Go to Campaigns.

  2. Click Create and choose Try the email builder.

  3. In the email preview, click Edit design or click directly on the email preview to open the builder.

  4. In the Content blocks section, drag the Feature a review block into your email layout.

  5. In the Feature a review window, click the Store drop-down and choose your store.

  6. Use the search bar or filters to find the review you want to feature.

  7. Select the review, then click Add review.

  8. In the content block settings, choose whether to show or hide the review headline, numeric rating value, customer name, or truncate long reviews.

Best practice

Use featured reviews in promotional or product-focused emails to add credibility and help shoppers feel more confident about purchasing.

Contact Activity

Mailchimp contact profiles display review activity for individual customers. This lets you view review-related engagement directly in the contact record, including the star rating and the product reviewed. This information can help you better understand customer sentiment and create more personalized campaigns.
