When customers have multiple subscriptions, merging the orders saves you time and resources, and saves the customer shipping costs and trips to the post office.

In this article, you’ll learn how to set up and manage automatic order merges.

    How it works

Let’s say a customer has two ongoing subscriptions. One is delivered every two weeks, and the other is delivered every month. By merging these orders, both subscriptions will be delivered together on the dates that overlap.

Customers will still be able to manage each subscription separately and will receive a separate delivery notification for each.

    Please note:
To be merged, orders need to share the same:

    • Delivery date
    • Currency
    • Payment method
    • Exact address

    Setting up auto-merge

    To automatically merge qualifying orders:

    1. Go to Settings > General.
    2. Toggle on Auto merge orders.
    Please note:
Subscriptions will not be merged if the order:
    • Contains out of stock items
    • Is part of a prepaid plan
    • Is expedited

Once orders are merged, they will share the same order ID in the customer’s order history, and the order will be combined in Shopify. The Shopify listing will include all original tags, plus a Merged order tag.

    Discounts and shipping

Orders with applied discounts and coupons can still be merged, but any savings will only apply to the original order.

For example, if two orders are merged and:

    • Order #1 was originally $100 but has a 10% discount.
    • Order #2 is $50.

The 10% discount will only be applied to Order #1.

Orders with add-ons and free-product rewards will still be merged.

    Please note:
Shipping profiles are applied to the merged order, not to each individual order.
