How it works
When you create a free product reward in Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals, Yotpo automatically creates a discount on Shopify using Shopify Functions. To learn more about Shopify Functions, see Shopify’s website.
This single discount manages all free product rewards you have set up. The discount cannot be edited in Shopify and must not be deleted.
Please note:
We use Shopify Functions to automatically add free products to the cart. This means:
- Shopify Plus merchants using checkout.liquid, please reach out to support to learn about the Shopify Scripts implementation
- Headless Shopify is not supported
Online customers see a menu of products they can exchange for points on your site. When they select a product, it is automatically added to their cart, and the corresponding number of points is removed from their point balance.
Important:
The points are deducted from the customer’s point balance only after the order is completed and Yotpo receives the order information. To learn more about post-purchase point deduction, see the Delayed Point Deduction article.
Free product rewards can be combined with all discount types - order, product, and shipping.
Setting up free products on your site
To set up free products and have them available in your store, follow these steps:
Step 1: Create a free product reward
To create a free product reward:
- In Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals, go to Set Up Program > Rewards program.
- Scroll down and click + Create reward.
- Select the Free product reward type and click Next.
- The product's variant ID must be included for each product reward you create.
- In the Product Value in Cents field, add the product's price in cents. This amount will be included in the Reward discount amount metric in loyalty analytics dashboards.
- Once you've configured all the settings, click Save Coupon.
