Goals and Outcomes

Retail syndication relies on accurate product matching. Each product in your store catalog must be connected to the corresponding product in the retailer’s catalog before its reviews can be syndicated.

Yotpo automatically matches products when you begin syndicating to a retailer and continues to apply the matching logic as new products are added to your catalog. The matching system uses Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), such as UPCs or EANs, stored in your product catalog. It supports multiple GTINs per product and automatically normalizes formatting differences to improve match accuracy.

For products that remain unmatched, the Product Matching Tool lets you review existing matches and create a manual match without contacting Yotpo Support.

In this article, you’ll learn when to use the Product Matching Tool, how to check existing product matches, and how to create a manual match.

Available for

The Product Matching Tool is available for the following retailers:

  • Target

  • Macy’s

  • Bloomingdale’s

For matching issues involving another retailer, contact Yotpo Support.

When to Use the Product Matching Tool

You can use the Product Matching Tool to review existing matches or create a manual match when:

  • Your reviews are not appearing on a retailer’s product page.

  • A product is not appearing as matched in your Retail Syndication dashboard under the Analytics section.

  • You want to confirm which retailer product is linked to a product in your store catalog.

A product may not be matched automatically in the following situations:

  • The Product Has Different GTINs - The same product may have one GTIN in your store catalog and a different GTIN in the retailer’s catalog.

When the identifiers are different, Yotpo cannot match the products automatically.

  • The Retailer Sells a Different Version of the Product - The retailer may sell a different size, quantity, or package version of your product.

For example, you may sell a product as a four-pack in your store, while the retailer sells it as a twelve-pack. Because the two versions have different GTINs, they will not be matched automatically.

  • The Product Does Not Have a GTIN - If a product does not have a GTIN in your store catalog, Yotpo does not have an identifier it can use to match the product automatically.

To help prevent matching issues, make sure your product catalog contains complete and accurate product identifiers before you start syndicating reviews.

How to Use the Matching Tool

To check whether your product is already matched:

  1. In the Yotpo Reviews main menu, go to Retail Syndication > Product Matching Tool.

  2. Select the relevant retailer.

  3. Search for your store product.

If the product appears in the results, it is already matched. You can see the retailer product to which it is connected and the confidence indicator for the match.

If the product does not appear, no match has been found for it. You can create a manual match by following the steps in the next section.

Creating a Manual Match

Selecting Your Store Product

To select the product you want to match:

  1. Click +New Match.

  2. Search for the relevant product in your store catalog.

  3. Select the product.

The product picker displays all products in your store catalog. Products are sorted by the total number of reviews collected for them.

Important

The displayed review count represents the total number of reviews collected for the product, not the number of reviews eligible for syndication.

After the match is created, the number of syndicated reviews may be lower. To learn more, see Review Eligibility for Retail Syndication.

Identifying the Retailer Product

Once you have selected your store product, identify the corresponding product in the retailer’s catalog by providing one of the following:

  • The URL of the product page on the retailer’s website.

  • The retailer product ID, if it is available in your retailer account or catalog data.

Either option allows Yotpo to locate the product in the retailer’s catalog.

Make sure you select the correct retailer product and that it is eligible to share reviews with your store product. Yotpo validates whether the selected products are eligible to share reviews according to the Review Sharing Guidelines. If the products are not a valid match, you will not be able to proceed with submitting the request.

Submitting a Manual Match

Once you have provided the retailer product information, click Submit.

After you submit the manual match, one of the following happens:

  • If the match is created successfully, you’ll see a confirmation message.

  • If Yotpo cannot create the match, you’ll see an error message explaining why the match could not be created.

Important

Once the match is created, it can take an additional 48 hours for the retailer to process the update and display the eligible reviews on the retailer’s product page. Processing times may vary by retailer.

How a Match Affects Syndication

Only reviews that meet the applicable eligibility, review-sharing, moderation, and retailer requirements can be syndicated.

FAQ

Why is the number of syndicated reviews lower than the total number of reviews for my product?

Not all reviews are eligible for retail syndication.

For example, a review may not be syndicated if it:

  • Does not meet the retailer’s moderation requirements.

  • Was not collected from a verified buyer.

  • Was syndicated to your store from another Yotpo account.

  • Does not meet the applicable eligibility or review-sharing requirements.

To learn more, see Review Eligibility for Retail Syndication and Review Sharing Guidelines.

How long does it take for a manual match to appear on the retailer’s website?

After the match is created, it can take up to an additional 48 hours for the retailer to process the update and display the eligible reviews on the retailer’s product page.

Will a manual match affect my other retailers?

No. A manual match is specific to the retailer it was created for. Creating a manual match for one retailer does not create or update matches for other retailers.

What should I do if I created a manual match for the wrong product?

You can cancel the match directly from the Product Matching Tool. Click the three-dot menu on the matched row, then select the option to cancel the match.

Is the Product Matching Tool available for all retailers?

No. The Product Matching Tool is available for Target, Macy’s, and Bloomingdale’s.

For matching issues involving another retailer, contact Yotpo Support.
