How it works
Smart Prompts uses Yotpo’s proprietary AI technology to identify the topics that shoppers are most interested in per product. Our engine surfaces topics based on mentions in past reviews, sentiment, and on-site click data of Yotpo Smart Filters. To negate bias and ensure a healthy mix of topics, we add a dimension of randomness in the selection of the topics. When a shopper opens the landing page review request, Smart Prompts suggests three relevant topics. These topics are chosen dynamically per product and are continually optimized based on new reviews and on-site trends.
If the shopper mentions a suggested topic, or a word relating to the topic, the topic text turns green and a progress bar starts to fill up. This positive feedback encourages the shopper to continue writing, helping maximize the review length and quality. The progress bar will reach 100% only if all three topics are mentioned and the review contains at least 200 characters.

Adding topics to your blocklist
Yotpo automatically cleans up your topic suggestions by filtering out anything irrelevant or undesirable. This includes:
- Words we identified as profanities
- Words with a negative sentiment
- Non-English words
- Names of accounts, products, people, places, dates, etc.
- Generic site-related words such as “brand”, “business”, “customer”, etc.
We won’t filter out more useful words such as “order”, “package”, “selection”, “service”, “shipping”, “website”, etc. - Words which were mentioned only once in a past review
If you want to make sure a specific topic does not appear as a suggestion, you can add it to your personal blocklist. You can add or remove topics at any time.To add topics to your blocklist:
- From the Smart Prompts window (Collect Reviews > Smart Prompts), click Manage blocklist.
- Add the words you do not want to appear as suggested topics.
- Click Save.
FAQ
How can I see a preview of the review form with suggested topics?
To see a sample review with suggested topics, just send a test email. The review form will display generic topics unrelated to any product. If you want to see dynamic topic suggestions for a specific product, send yourself a manual product review request.
How does the engine choose which topics to suggest?
The engine suggests topics that were mentioned at least twice in past reviews. We’ll prioritize topics according to how often they are mentioned, what their sentiment is, how relevant they are, and whether they are clicked in the onsite Smart Filters.
Does the shopper have to use the exact topic word for it to turn green?
Our algorithm recognizes synonyms and variations of the topic suggestion, even if the exact word is not used. For example, if the topic suggestion is “shipping”, we’ll recognize similar words such as “shipment”, ”shipped”, “delivery”, and “delivered”.
Can Smart Prompts suggest topics in different languages?
As Smart Prompts uses Natural Language Processing, it is currently only compatible with English language reviews.
