How to create a Yotpo photo review earning rule
Shopify and Shopify Plus
- From your main menu, go to Set Up Program > Rewards Program.
- Click on Create earning rule.
- Under Yotpo Reviews select Yotpo photo review, then click Next.
All other eCommerce platforms
- From your main menu, go to Set Up Program > Rewards Program.
- Click on Create earning rule.
- Click Select on Yotpo photo review.
Customize your earning rule settings
The Yotpo photo review earning rule is highly customizable. Below is an overview of all the settings:

Below is a detailed explanation of all settings:
Internal Set Up
These settings determine the behavior and functionality of your earning rule, but they are not customer-facing.
- What kind of reward
Choose either Points or A coupon
Points
- How many points
The number of points the customer will get for completing this earning rule. Learn about deciding how much points should be worth.
Coupon
- Which coupon
Choose which coupon the customer will get for completing this earning rule. You can choose from a list of your created coupons. How to create coupons
Please note
This reward will be added on top of any other active review earning rule you have running (such as the "Yotpo review" or "Yotpo video review".)
Default: Reward is given per photo
The reward value that you set (either Points or Acoupon) will be awarded per photo. However, there are two options to regulate this:
- Time between rewards setting (below)
Adding any waiting period will allow only one reward per waiting period - Photo Moderation setting (below)
You may choose to reward only photos that you approve and publish
- Photo Moderation
- Only reward published photos - this option will only issue the reward if and when you choose to publish it in the Yotpo Admin.
- Reward both published and unpublished photos - this option will reward immediately when the customer uploads their photos, regardless of if you ever choose to publish them on your site.
Un-publishing photos
If you decide to un-publish photos, it will not deduct the reward from the customer
- Time between rewards
This setting allows you to set a waiting period to limit how often a customer can receive this reward.- No limit: The customer will be given one reward per photo uploaded.
- Any other waiting period: The customer will only get one reward per time period, regardless of how many photos they upload. The customer must wait out the specified waiting period and then complete the earning rule again in order to receive another reward.
Time between rewards FAQ
- Q: I have no time limit set, and a customer uploads 5 images of the same product on the same review. What will happen?
A: The customer will get 5 rewards* The same is true if they upload 5 images of different products on different reviews. *Note this also depends on the "Photo moderation" setting. - Q: I set a time limit of 2 days, and I only reward for published photos. A customer uploads 5 images at the same time and I publish all of them. How many rewards will they get?
A: One. Regardless of how many photos are uploaded and published, they will only receive one reward during the set time limit. They must complete the waiting period and complete the earning rule again in order to receive another reward. - Q: I set no time limit and I only reward published photos. A customer uploads 5 images and I publish 5 of them. How many rewards will they get?
A: Five. Since there is no waiting period, they will receive one reward for each photo you choose to publish.
- Maximum Times Completed Per User
This is the maximum total number of times a customer can receive this reward
Storefront Settings
These settings let you control how the earning rule will appear onsite to your customers
- Campaign Name
This setting is the name of your Yotpo photo review earning rule. It will appear in three places on your site:
- On your on-site rewards popup or custom rewards page
- In the onsite customer reward history
- On the customer page in your Loyalty & Referrals Admin
- Reward Text
This the value you want to display to the shopper. Make sure that this value matches the exact value you set in the internal setting How many points/Which Coupon above.
Please note:
If you make a change to the Reward Text field, don't forget to also update the How many points field. This will not be done automatically.
- Description Text
After the customer clicks on the earning rule, they will see a short 1-2 sentence description of the reward
- Icon
By default, the Yotpo photo review icon is set to an image icon, but you can also choose from hundreds of other options. Click “Use Font Awesome Icon Names” and copy & paste the icon name you want to use
- Eligibility countdown message (days)
If you set a “Time between rewards” limit, customers will see this countdown message
You're eligible to participate again in *|days|* days.
The correct number of days will automatically populate.

If you set a Time between rewards” limit, customers will see this countdown message
You're eligible to participate again in *|hours|* hours.
The correct number of hours will automatically populate.
