Sunset Flow Template
- DarkLight
The Sunset Flow template allows you to message unengaged email subscribers and then automatically exclude those who don’t respond to the flow from future email campaigns. This can help you optimize your email lists and lower campaign costs.
In this article, you’ll learn how the Sunset Flow template works.
How it works
The Sunset Flow template is set up to send email messages to customers who haven’t engaged with any of your email campaigns for a specified period of time. These customers are part of the Unengaged email subscribers - Sunset flow segment. The segment is predefined and includes email subscribers who have received at least 20 emails in the past 180 days but have never opened any of them.
The Sunset Flow template uses the “Entered a Segment” trigger. It is activated when customers enter or exit the Unengaged email subscribers - Sunset flow segment. The template has two branches to handle each case.
All customers tagged as Email unengaged at the end of the flow can subsequently be excluded from your email campaigns’ lists of recipients. There is no need to set up anything manually. Simply mark the Skip unengaged contacts checkbox that appears when selecting your email campaign recipients. For more details, see Excluding unengaged subscribers from email campaigns.
Important:
The Unengaged email subscribers - Sunset flow segment cannot be renamed or deleted. However, you can change its rules to match your definition of unengaged email subscribers.
The section below explains how the Sunset Flow template is structured. You can customize the content of your emails but we strongly recommend keeping the template’s default structure.
Sunset Flow template structure
As already mentioned, the template has two branches:
Entered the segment
Exited the segment
Entered the segment branch
Customers who enter the segment receive an email with an offer. If they open the email, they automatically exit the segment and move to the other branch. If they don’t open the email, they receive another one after a certain delay. The scenario is the same for those who open the second email: they leave the segment. Customers who don’t take any action after the second email are tagged with an Email unengaged profile property with the value set to true. For these customers, the flow ends here.
Exited the segment branch
Customers who exit the segment have their Email unengaged profile property updated to false. In other words, these customers are no longer identified as unengaged.
Excluding unengaged subscribers from email campaigns
To exclude unengaged subscribers:
In your Yotpo SMS & Email main menu, go to Campaigns > My Campaigns, and click Create campaign.
Select Email and click Create campaign to open the email campaign builder.
In the Audience section, from the Include audience drop-down menu, choose the segment or list that you want to target.
Please note:
The system will verify if there are subscribers in the Unengaged email subscribers - Sunset flow segment. If there are, a checkbox will appear, allowing you to exclude unengaged subscribers from the campaign.
We strongly recommend marking the Skip unengaged contacts checkbox. This helps prevent over-messaging and reduces campaign costs. If a customer reengages, they will exit the segment and continue receiving emails as usual.
