Multilingual Review Emails Overview
Sending review request emails in your customers’ preferred language can significantly boost response rates and help you collect more reviews.
When customers receive emails in a language they understand, they’re more likely to engage and leave a review. This creates a smoother experience, reduces confusion, and strengthens communication between you and your customers.
In this article, you’ll learn how multilingual review request emails work and how to set them up.
How It Works
Yotpo uses the customer’s billing address information to determine which language is relevant to them.
If the detected language is enabled in your Yotpo Reviews Email Settings, the review request email will be sent in that language.
If the language isn’t available, Yotpo will send the email in the default (fallback) language configured in your email settings.
Each supported language includes predefined translations for the following email sections:
Email subject line - for ease of use, you can edit and save localized subject lines directly in the email editor.
Email body
Email footer
Unsubscribe link
Product arrived too soon
Supported Languages
Yotpo currently supports the following languages:
Danish (DA)
Dutch (NL)
English (EN)
Finnish (FI)
French (FR)
German (DE)
Italian (IT)
Japanese (JA)
Norwegian (NO)
Portuguese (PT)
Spanish (ES)
Swedish (SV)
Limitations
Latest email editor required: This feature is available only with the latest version of the email editor. Learn more about using the new email editor.
Languages for multilingual countries: In countries with multiple official languages, Yotpo sends emails in the primary language. The exception is Canada, where customers in Quebec will receive emails in French.
Custom questions: These are not automatically translated. Learn more about adding Custom Questions.
Product names and attributes: Product names and additional attributes, such as product descriptions, will appear as they are in your Yotpo product catalog and will not be translated.
Tip
To view your catalog, go to your Yotpo store settings > Product catalog > Update Products tab. Here you will see the option to send the catalog to your email address.
Setting up Multilingual Emails
To use the multilingual review email feature, you first need to select all relevant languages from the Email Settings in your Yotpo Reviews Admin. Follow these steps:
In your Yotpo Reviews main menu, go to Settings > Email Settings.
Toggle on Translate emails.
Choose the default language for your emails.
Select any additional relevant languages.
Click Save Changes.
Editing and Customizing Multilingual Emails
You can edit and customize the content and design of your translated emails. To make changes:
Go to Emails > Email Setup.
On the Review request email tile, click Edit.
Under Initial email request, open the Edit email content dropdown and click Open advanced editor.
In the email editor, click the language dropdown in the top right corner and select the language you want to view.
Make your edits and click Save changes.
Editing and Customizing Multilingual Follow-up Emails
In addition to sending review request emails in local languages, you can also translate and customize your follow-up emails. To do that, follow these steps:
Go to Emails > Email Setup.
On the Review request email tile, click Edit.
Open the Send a follow-up email dropdown (on the left side of the review request email preview).
Click Open advanced editor and select the local language from the dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the editor. This will automatically translate the email from the primary to the selected language.
Adjust the email to your preference, and click Save & Close when finished.
