Implementing Free Shipping for VIP Tiers on Shopify

Offer free shipping to customers based on their VIP tier status. Free shipping is a great way to incentivize users to engage with your loyalty program.

In this article, you will learn how to implement free shipping for your VIP tiers program.

How it works

Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals connects to the Shopify shipping rates you have set for your store to reflect those rates within the VIP Tiers program. The discounts will be reflected in our Shopify Checkout extension and Shop Pay.

When editing at an existing tier, you will see the Free shipping section where you can customize free shipping offers for that specific tier.

When clicking Add shipping rate, you’ll see a popup that includes all the shipping rates you already have set in Shopify (flat rate, carrier, or app to calculate rates) according to shipping zones. Each shipping zone will show the name and the price of the shipping rate.

When choosing which rates to mark as free for each tier, you can also choose to set a minimum spend amount. This means that the free shipping perk will only be available to a customer in this VIP tier if they spend the necessary minimum amount on their order.

Any free shipping discount set in Yotpo will also appear on the Discounts page of your Shopify admin as an Automatic discount rule.

Shipping rate discounts that have been deactivated or deleted in Shopify will have a corresponding ‘Discount deactivated’ or ‘Discount deleted’ tag in Yotpo.

In this case, you will be able to be redirected to your Shopify Shipping Rates to change the settings there.

Limitations

• Free shipping is only available if you have a VIP tiers program set up. To learn more about the VIP tiers program, go to Loyalty & Referrals VIP Tiers.
• Free shipping is available across all tiers except the base tier. To learn more about the base tier, click here.
• This is only available for merchants using Shopify shipping rates. Other apps or solutions are not supported.
• Free shipping will need to be set up individually for each tier
• Customers will not receive points for free shipping if you have a Points for Purchases earning rule set up that includes shipping and taxes

Setting up free shipping for a tier

To set up free shipping for a tier:

1. In your Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals main menu, go to Set Up Program > VIP Tiers Program.
2. Under Your Tiers, select the tier for which you would like to offer free shipping.
3. Go to the Free shipping section and click Add shipping rates.
4. Select the relevant shipping zone and check the box next to the shipping rate you would like to mark as free for this VIP tier. You can also set a minimum amount the customer will need to spend on an order to have free shipping available to them.
5. Click Done.
6. Click Apply to Tiers.

Managing shipping tiers

If you already have shipping tiers set up in Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals and would like to manage and update them:

1. In your Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals main menu, go to Set Up Program > VIP Tiers Program.
2. Under Your Tiers, select the tier for which you would like to offer free shipping.
3. Go to the Free shipping section and click Manage shipping rates.
4. Change the setting to your updated preferences.
5. Click Done.
6. Click Apply to Tiers.
