Supporting multiple languages helps merchants serve shoppers in different regions and ensures reviews remain accessible and trustworthy across global storefronts.

Yotpo Reviews supports two language-related capabilities:

  • Widget interface language - controls the language of static text displayed in on-site review widgets.

  • Reviews translations - controls how customer review content is translated for shoppers.

    • Translate on Click - shoppers translate individual reviews when needed.

    • Automatically translate all reviews - reviews are shown pre-translated based on the widget or storefront language.

These settings are configured independently and affect different parts of the Reviews experience.

Availability

Translation is supported in the following locations:

  • Reviews Widget.

  • SEO Page.

  • Reviews Tab.

  • Reviews media modal.

Yotpo supports approximately 35 languages, covering key European, Asian, and Middle Eastern markets.

Widget Interface Language

Widget language applies to Yotpo-generated UI elements displayed in on-site widgets, including:

  • Static labels and buttons.

  • AI Summary paragraph.

  • Summary by topic.

  • Smart filters.

This does not translate customer review content.

Set Your Widget Interface Language

The widget language is based on your store or account language configuration.

Shopify Stores

For Shopify and Shopify Plus stores, widget interface language is managed automatically through Shopify Markets.

Widgets inherit the storefront language based on the shopper’s locale and language configuration in Shopify. The widget language setting is enabled by default.

Important

  • Widget interface language affects only widget UI elements.

  • Review titles and content remain in the originally submitted language unless Reviews translations is enabled.

  • If the shopper’s locale cannot be identified or is not supported, widgets default to English.

Other eCommerce Platform

For platforms other than Shopify, widget language is configured per domain.

Each language or geographic variation requires:

  • A dedicated domain or subdomain.

  • A separate Yotpo App Key per domain.

This means each domain supports a single widget language.

To change the widget language:

  1. In Yotpo Reviews, click your store name at the bottom left of the screen.

  2. Click on Account Settings > General Settings.

  3. Select the desired language from the Language dropdown.

  4. Click Save Changes.

Note

On some platforms, such as WooCommerce, widget language must be configured through the store’s administration panel rather than in Yotpo.

Translate Widgets

Use Translate Widgets to control whether widgets display in the shopper’s selected language or remain in English.

To turn Translate Widgets on or off:

  1. Go to On-site Widgets.

  2. Open Widget settings.

  3. Turn the Translate widgets option on or off.

  4. Click Save.

This option is available on all plans.

Reviews Translation

Reviews translation helps shoppers understand reviews written in other languages.

You can choose between two translation options:

Translate on Click

How It Works

Translations are generated using AI-based translation technology.

When Translate on Click is enabled:

  • Translation is triggered by shopper interaction.

  • Translations are applied per review.

  • Reviews are not translated automatically at page load.

  • Merchants cannot edit translated review content.

Shopper Experience

When enabled, shoppers can:

  • Select Translate on individual reviews.

  • View translated content inline within the widget.

  • Switch back to the original text using See Original.

Enable Reviews Translate on Click

To enable Reviews Translate on Click:

  1. Go to On-site Widgets.

  2. Open Widget Settings.

  3. Enable Review translation.

  4. Click on Translate on Click.

Automatic Translation

Automatically translate all reviews all reviews pre-translates reviews to match the widget or storefront language.

When enabled, reviews appear translated when the widget language matches a supported target language. Shoppers can still view the original review text.

This option is available on Premium and Enterprise plans only.

How It Works

When Automatically translate all reviews is enabled:

  • Reviews are pre-translated to match the widget language.

  • Translated reviews can appear automatically when the page loads.

  • Shoppers can switch back to the original review text.

  • If a matching translated version is not available, the original review appears instead.

How It Works by Platform

Shopify Markets

  • The widget dynamically loads in the language of the storefront the shopper is browsing. Storefront languages are set in Shopify Markets.

  • If the storefront language matches a supported translated language, pre-translated reviews can appear automatically in that language.

  • If no matching pre-translation is available, the original review appears and shoppers can translate it manually.

Other Platforms

  • On platforms other than Shopify, translation is based on the widget language.

  • If the widget is set to a supported language, pre-translated reviews can appear automatically in that language.

  • If no matching pre-translation is available, the original review appears and shoppers can translate it manually.

Enable Automatic Reviews Translations

To enable review translation settings:

  1. Go to On-site Widgets.

  2. Open Widget settings.

  3. Enable Reviews translations.

  4. Click on Automatically translate all reviews.

  5. Click Save.

AI Translation Disclaimer

Reviews translations use AI-generated translations.

Translations are provided to help shoppers understand reviews more easily and may contain inaccuracies. Yotpo does not guarantee translation accuracy.

Language Detection and Availability

  • Reviews written in the store’s language do not display a translation option.

  • Reviews written in unsupported languages do not display a translation option.

  • If the review language cannot be detected, shoppers may see that translation is not available.

Note

Automatic language detection is used and may be inaccurate in rare cases, especially for closely related languages. This can affect whether the translation option appears for a specific review or the accuracy of the translated content.

FAQ


Why isn’t my widget displayed in the correct language?

Make sure the correct language is configured in your platform and that widget interface language is enabled.

Why don’t I see a translation option on some reviews?

A translation option may not appear if the review is already written in the store’s language, the language is unsupported, or the language cannot be detected.

Does widget interface language translate review content?

No. Widget interface language and Reviews translations are separate capabilities.

Can I edit translated review content?

No. Translated reviews are generated automatically and cannot be edited.
