Yotpo supports Translation on Demand, allowing shoppers to instantly translate individual reviews into the language they’re browsing in. This makes reviews more accessible across different regions without requiring you to manage multiple language versions manually.

What Gets Translated

The translation feature covers the full review experience, including:

  • Review headline and body

  • Comments

  • Text metadata (e.g., timestamps, star rating text, etc.)

  • Custom questions and attributes (e.g., variant, reviewer info, location, etc.)

  • Syndicated reviews from other stores or regions

Limitations and Considerations

Search Limitation

Translated content is not indexed in the widget's on-site search. Free text searches will only return results from original (non-translated) review content.

Translation Method

Yotpo uses a combination of translation technologies to balance speed and accuracy. By default, we prioritize high-performance machine translation. If necessary, we automatically fall back to LLM-based translation to maintain a smooth and reliable experience.

Language Detection

Each review is automatically analyzed to identify its dominant language.

  • Detection is highly accurate for text over 20 characters.

  • Very short strings may be harder to classify.

  • If language can’t be identified, translation is not offered for that specific review.

Translation Options

Translation on Demand allows shoppers to translate individual reviews in real time.

When enabled, shoppers will see:

  • Translate button — instantly translates the review into their browsing language

  • Inline translation — the translated content appears directly inside the widget

  • “See Original” toggle — shoppers can switch back to the original text

  • Attribution — translations display the label “Translated by AI” to maintain transparency

Note

This feature helps international shoppers quickly understand the review without leaving the page. User testing indicates that clearly mentioning the translation service is highly important for building user trust.

How to Enable Review Translation

Eligibility Requirements

To enable Translation on Demand:

  • Your store must be on the Pro plan or above. You can compare available plans and pricing here.

  • Your store must use the V3 widget.

  • Your widget must be on the latest version.

    If your widget is not up to date, you’ll see a message at the top of the screen. To update, follow the instructions here.

Review translation is not currently available as a self-service feature in the Yotpo admin. To enable it, please contact your Yotpo representative.

Self-serve configuration will be available in an upcoming release.

Q: Which languages are supported?

A: The feature supports over 35 major languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, and more.

Q: Is translation automatic?

A: Translations are triggered when a shopper clicks the Translate button. Reviews are translated into the shopper’s browsing language on demand.

Q: Is there a limit to how many reviews shoppers can translate?

A: No. Shoppers can translate as many reviews as they wish using the on-demand feature.
