Goals and Outcomes

The Reviews Summary helps shoppers quickly understand what customers think about a product by showing a short AI-generated product-level overview based on existing reviews. This helps shoppers make informed purchasing decisions without spending too much time going over all available reviews.

In this article, you’ll learn how to enable the Reviews Summary, how it displays on your store, and what configuration options are available.

How It Works

The Reviews Summary appears as an always-visible section called What customers say. It displays an AI-generated product-level summary based on recent reviews collected through Yotpo. Shoppers can open a drawer using the Read summary by topics button to view topic-based insights.

Note

The Reviews Summary can analyze reviews written in any language, but the generated summary is displayed in English only.

For the Reviews Summary to appear, a product must have:

  • At least 20 reviews, and

  • At least 2 topics, with 5 reviews for each topic.

Before You Start

Before you add the Reviews Summary, the new Reviews Widget must already be installed on your site. To learn more about our new widgets, see our New Widgets Overview guide.

Getting Started

Adding the Reviews Summary to Your Store

The Reviews Summary can be added to the Reviews Widget, Star Rating, or both.

To add the Reviews Summary to your store:

  1. In your Yotpo Reviews main menu, go to On-site Widgets and select the Reviews Widget (main widget).

  2. In the Reviews Summary section, enable the toggle to activate the summary paragraph and the drawer by topics.

  3. Click Save changes.

The Reviews Summary will automatically adopt your brand's visual style, in line with the appearance of the Reviews Widget.

Note

The Reviews Summary must be enabled in the Reviews Widget first. Enabling it in the Star Rating Widget only adds a way for shoppers to open the summary drawer from the star rating.

Optional: Add another entry point from the Star Rating Widget

If you want shoppers to access the summary drawer from the Star Rating Widget:

  1. Go to On-Site Widgets and select the Star Rating Widget.

  2. Enable the Reviews Summary toggle.

  3. Click Save changes.

The Reviews Summary will automatically adopt your brand's visual style, in line with the appearance of the Reviews Widget.

A fixed secondary button called Read summary by topics opens the topic-based summary drawer. This button cannot be customized.

Note

While we strive to use the optimal prompts for generating high-quality results, the summaries are generated by AI and cannot be changed or edited.

Customizing the Reviews Summary

Once you toggle on the feature, you’ll be able to customize it:

  • Minimum stars – Set the minimum star rating a review must have to appear in the Reviews Summary. Products with ratings below this threshold won't display a summary, even if they otherwise qualify.

  • Topic emoji – Choose an emoji to highlight each topic in the summary. Options include a thumbs up, smiley face, checkmark (V-check), or no emoji.

Adding the Summary Banner to the Reviews Widget

To further boost engagement and drive conversions, you can also add a Summary Banner to your Reviews Widget.

The Summary Banner is a fully customizable block that appears within the first two pages of your displayed reviews. It allows you to engage shoppers even if they haven’t opened the summary drawer, helping you capture their attention as they scroll.

Here’s how to enable and customize it:

  1. From your Yotpo Admin, navigate to On-Site Widgets > Reviews Widget > Edit.

  2. In the editor, open the Reviews Summary section and toggle on the Summary Banner.

  3. Add a headline to grab shoppers' attention.

  4. Customize the text that appears under the headline.

  5. Set the CTA button text.

  6. Adjust the banner’s primary and text colors to match your brand.

  7. Click Preview to see the result, and Save changes when you're ready.
