Incentivized reviews are collaborations between a brand and its customers - The customer leaves reviews about their experience with the brand’s product or products, and in exchange, the brand gives them a small reward.

In this article, you’ll learn how to mark reviews as “incentivized” in Yotpo.

        Tip:
To learn more about incentivized reviews and related guidelines and regulations, see Understanding Incentivized Reviews.

        How it works

A brand needs to be transparent about which reviews are incentivized as there are regulations in place for both marketers and eCommerce platforms when it comes to collecting reviews from customers.

You can mark reviews in one of the following ways:

        • Incentivizing reviews through Yotpo
        • Manually marking reviews via the Yotpo Review Moderation panel
        • Marking review via API

        Incentivizing reviews through Yotpo

Reviews that receive incentives through the Yotpo platform will automatically be marked and carry an ‘incentivized’ badge.

        These include:

Manually marking reviews via the Yotpo Review Moderation panel

When moderation reviews, you have the option to mark any reviews as incentivized and select the type of incentive that was offered.

The marked reviews will have an “Incentivized review” that appears on-site in the Reviews Widget and will show the incentive type when hovering over the badge.

        Important:

Incentivized reviews submitted through a provider that isn’t Yotpo must be manually marked. This includes the following incentives:

        • Coupons
        • Loyalty points
        • Free product samples
        • Sweepstakes
        • Gift cards
        • etc.,

        Marking review via API

When creating a review using the Create review API endpoint, you have the option to mark the review as incentivized and add the incentive type offered to the customer.

        Types of incentives

        • Free product
        • Coupon
        • Loyalty points
        • Paid promotion
        • Employee review
        • Other

The marked reviews will have an “Incentivized review” that appears on-site in the Reviews Widget and will show the incentive type when hovering over the badge.

        Syndicating incentivized reviews

Different sources vary in their attitude toward incentivized reviews. Below is a breakdown of all available review syndication sources and how incentivized reviews affect the syndicated review data:

        Syndication partner

        Impact on syndication

        Google Seller Rating (Site Reviews)

Do not accept incentivized site reviews

        Google Shopping (Product Reviews)
        Accept incentivized product reviews
Meta (Shops on Facebook & Instagram)
Accept incentivized product reviews. Reviews are marked as ‘incentivized’ in Meta Shops
        Walmart

Does not accept incentivized reviews of any kind. Reviews that were created as “not incentivized” and marked as incentivized later on will be deleted.

        Bazaarvoice

Accept incentivized product reviews (collected by Yotpo only, not including sampling integrations). Reviews will appear with an incentivized badge.
        Please note:
The syndication partners typically require that reviews are marked properly and may take action against brands that are found in violation of their public authenticity guidelines & applicable law. We strongly recommend ensuring you mark reviews quickly and accurately.
