You can increase your ROI and engagement by targeting shoppers based on their purchasing behavior and attributes. Add segments to different Loyalty & Referrals earning rules to tailor rewards to specific audiences. For example, you can re-engage inactive customers by creating a Double Points earning rule for shoppers who haven't made a purchase in over 90 days.

Applying Earning Rules to Target Audiences

You can use Segments to apply earning rules to specific audiences by creating a new earning rule or editing an existing one.

New earning rule

When creating a new earning rule:

  1. From the earning rule setup page, use the Target audience picker under Advanced settings.

  2. Select the segments you want to apply to the earning rule.

    Important

    • If you previously used Customer Tags for targeting, leave those fields empty under Advanced settings.

    • Only customers who have opted into your loyalty program are included.

    • By default, earning rules apply to All customers unless you change the audience.

  1. Under Apply this rule to, choose the relevant segments.

  2. (Optional) Under Do not apply this rule to, select the segments you want to exclude. For example, you can apply a rule to All customers, but exclude Top spenders.

    Note

    • The estimated number of eligible loyalty members appears below the Target audience picker.

    • This number is approximate because segments are dynamic and update automatically.

  3. Complete the remaining fields and click Save.

After saving, you’ll return to the Earning Rules page. Your new rule will appear with an audience tag showing which segment it targets. This allows you to distinguish between earning rules of the same type based on their target audience.

Existing earning rule

When editing an existing earning rule:

  1. Go to the Earning Rules page (Rewards Program > Ways to Earn).

  2. Click the pencil icon on the earning rule card.

  3. Use the Target audience picker to select the relevant segments.

  4. Review the settings and click Save.

Customizing On-Site Modules for Target Audiences

When building your Earning Points on-site module, you can control which targeted earning rules appear and preview how they display for different segments.

Note

You can also perform these customizations in the Rewards page module editor.

Displaying targeted earning rules on-site

When creating a new Earning Points Module, you will first need to select the earning rules that will appear on-site.

To select the earning rules:

  1. On the Earning Points Module page, click Create campaigns module.

  2. Use the target audience tags to differentiate between earning rules of the same type.

  3. Select the earning rules you want to appear on-site, then click Create.

Previewing on-site modules as the target audience

As you customize your Earning Points Modules, use the Preview as target audience picker to preview the on-site display according to the target audience you selected. Under Preview as target audience, use the Select segments dropdown menu to add which segment you’d like to preview the module as.

Note

  • Customers only see the earning rules targeted to them.

  • By default, the preview shows the All customers segment.

Adding a target audience message

You can display a personalized message above targeted earning rules to highlight exclusive rewards.

To add a target audience message:

  1. In the Earning Points Module editor, click Customize tiles.

  2. Under Select a tile to customize, choose an earning rule.

  3. Expand Target audience message.

  4. Enable Display message.

  5. Enter your Message text and publish the changes.
