Important

Walmart syndication is enabled through a third-party integration partner - meaning certain processes like product matching, moderation, and publishing timelines are governed by that partner's systems rather than directly by Yotpo.

Goals and Outcomes

Syndicate your product reviews to Walmart.com to extend the reach of your customer feedback across retailer channels. Retail syndication enables merchants to share verified product reviews with retailer product listings, helping increase product credibility and improve shopper trust.

In this article you will learn how Walmart review syndication works, how to set it up, and how to monitor the syndication status of your products.

Integration Overview

How it works

The syndication flow works as follows:

  1. A customer submits a product review for one of your products.

  2. Reviews are processed through the syndication integration to ensure they meet the retailer’s moderation guidelines.

  3. The product is identified using the GTIN you assigned it, such as UPC, ISBN, or EAN, and the review is matched to the relevant product listing before being delivered to the retailer.

  4. Walmart posts the review on the relevant product page with a badge indicating the origin of the review.

  5. When you start using Walmart syndication, we'll send one full feed to Walmart. From then on, we'll send incremental feeds to Walmart whenever you have new or updated reviews.

  6. Reviews will be syndicated to the retailer regardless of their publishing status on the merchant’s site. This means that even if you decide to reject a review on your own site, it may still be syndicated to Walmart and published there. This requirement is enforced by Walmart to meet authenticity standards and ensure that all reviews are included.

Integration Basics

Customers on a Premium or Enterprise plan

  • Syndicate an unlimited number of reviews each month

  • Upload existing reviews according to your contract

This feature is available as an add-on and requires an additional fee. To learn more, reach out to your Yotpo account manager.

Limitations

There are certain limitations when syndicating reviews to Walmart:

  • Product-Specific Reviews Only

Only product reviews will be syndicated. Reviews that aren’t related to the products sold on Walmart will not be syndicated. This includes reviews that mention shipping or service.

  • Moderation Compliance

    • Reviews that fail to meet the retailer’s moderation guidelines will not be syndicated.

    • Reviews associated with products whose GTIN does not match the retailer’s product catalog will not be syndicated.

  • Verified Buyer Reviews Only

Only reviews imported with a "verified buyer" tag will be syndicated. Reviews with other tags will be excluded. For more details, see Importing Reviews to Yotpo.

  • Order ID Requirement: Reviews must be associated with a valid order ID. Reviews that are not linked to a transaction may not be eligible for syndication.

  • Grouped Product Reviews: For grouped products, only reviews specific to the original reviewed product will be syndicated. Reviews for other products in the group will be excluded. Learn more about Grouping products.

  • Internal Syndication Exclusion: Reviews that are internally syndicated across your Yotpo accounts will not be syndicated to Walmart. To learn more about internal syndication, see About Syndication.

  • Incentivized Reviews: Incentivized reviews will be syndicated, except for reviews marked as “Employee review.” To learn more about incentivized reviews, see Moderation Reviews.

  • Valid GTIN Requirement: Reviews for products that are not associated with at least one valid GTIN will not be syndicated.

Setting It Up

To start using Walmart Syndication:

  1. Ask us to enable the Walmart dashboard on your account. If you’re on a Premium or Enterprise plan, please reach out to your Yotpo Customer Success Manager.

  2. Verify that each relevant product in your Yotpo product catalog has a UPC, ISBN, or EAN. To add this information, you’ll need to add specs to your product catalog. Usually, we’ll pull these details automatically to Yotpo.

Platform-specific details:

Once we’ve enabled Walmart syndication on your account, syndication will start automatically. You’ll start seeing your reviews on Walmart within 5-7 days. This initial period reflects the time required for the first full syndication feed to be processed.

Monitoring Your Reviews

Your Walmart dashboard will be updated twice a day.

To access the dashboard:

In your Yotpo Reviews main menu, go to Google & Syndication > Retail Syndication.

Syndication Overview

The following information is available:

Key Metrics

  • Product matches: The number of products in your Yotpo catalog that have a match in your retailer's catalog using unique GTINs such as UPC, EAN, or ISBN.

  • Product matches not found: These products do not have a match between your Yotpo and retailer catalog using unique GTINs such as UPC, EAN, or ISBN.

  • Reviews collected: Includes all collected reviews for matched products.

  • Reviews syndicated: This includes all reviews collected for matched products in Yotpo that passed the retailer’s moderation guidelines and were published.

Dashboard Update

While data is sent to Walmart in real-time, the dashboard refreshes once a day.

Checking the Syndication Status of Your Products

You can check the syndication status of your products by downloading the Syndication Report in CSV format. For step-by-step instructions on how to generate and interpret the report, see Syndication Report Overview.

Note

A product may appear in multiple rows in the report with different syndication statuses. This can occur when a product has more than one GTIN and only some of them match the retailer’s catalog.

If you are looking for a specific product, filter or sort the report by the product name or GTIN to see all associated statuses.

For each product, the report will show the following details:

  • Product Status

  • Collected Reviews

  • Syndicated Reviews

  • Product Identifier Type

  • Location URL

  • Last Updated

There are several syndication statuses you can see in the report:

  • Matched: The product has a match in the retailer’s catalog.

  • Match not found: The product doesn’t have a match in the retailer’s catalog and/or it doesn’t have an identifier in Yotpo’s catalog.

For more detailed information about the report, see Syndication Report Overview.

FAQ and Troubleshooting

How often are Yotpo reviews synced to Walmart.com?

New or updated reviews are sent to Walmart daily. After the initial setup, new reviews will appear on the listing within 5–7 business days. If a review isn’t posted within that time, it may have violated one of Walmart’s review guidelines. See here for further information.

I have a new review on my site. Will it be syndicated to Walmart?

New product reviews collected on your site will be automatically syndicated if they meet the retailer’s moderation guidelines and if they pass all the eligibility rules mentioned in the limitations above.

Will product variants be shared with Walmart?

Yes. If the GTIN matches a product in Yotpo and one of its variants on Walmart, reviews will automatically be shared across all variants of that product.

Can I see which individual reviews were syndicated to Walmart?

No. Individual syndicated reviews cannot be viewed.

You can see the total number of syndicated reviews in the Walmart Syndication dashboard.

For product-level details, download the Syndication Report, which shows the number of collected and syndicated reviews per product.

Can I control which reviews are sent to Walmart?

No. All reviews that meet Walmart’s guidelines will be sent automatically. Reviews that do not meet these guidelines - for example, reviews that mention shipping or service or contain profanity - will not be syndicated.

How can I troubleshoot a specific product?

  1. In your Yotpo Reviews main menu, go to Google & Syndication > Retail Syndication > Walmart.

  2. Click Export to email to receive a report with the syndication status of your products.

  3. Open the report and search for the product by its name or GTIN.

  • If the product is matched and the review is still missing, please contact Yotpo support.

  • If the product is unmatched, please check the GTIN and product identifiers in the retailer catalog, and then update your product catalog/Shopify accordingly. See step 2 above.

  • If the product is not listed, the GTIN is probably not valid, and therefore the product was not sent. Please check the GTIN and update your product catalog/Shopify accordingly.

Some of my store reviews don’t appear on Walmart. Why?

There are several reasons why some of your reviews may not appear on the retailer’s site. Please check the following:

  • Your product catalog must be complete and accurate to enable product matching between your catalog and retailer listings. Please make sure your catalog is up to date.

  • All products in your Yotpo product catalog must have a valid identifier such as a UPC, ISBN, or EAN.

  • Reviews must comply with the retailer’s moderation guidelines and relate to a product sold on the retailer’s site. Reviews that mention shipping or service, for example, may not be syndicated.

  • Legacy reviews are sent only for the number of reviews you selected when enabling syndication.

  • Anonymous reviews from import will not be syndicated. Only reviews imported with a Verified Buyer or Incentivized tag are eligible for syndication. Imported reviews without these tags will not be sent.

  • Reviews may also be missing if the product family or variant structure is not set up correctly on the retailer’s side. Product families enable the sharing of reviews across product variants (for example size or color). If variants are not correctly grouped, reviews may not appear across all related products.
